Lost Rights: The Misadventures of a Stolen American Relic, May 20, 2017, 1:00 pm

Follow the epic journey made by one of the 14 hand-drafted originals of the Bill of Rights. “Stolen” by a Union army infantryman rifling through a Raleigh, North Carolina statehouse looking for Confederate mementos, the document was recovered by the FBI in Philadelphia, almost 138 years later, in a dramatic sting operation when two Connecticut antique dealers tried to sell the document to the National Constitution Center. Author David Howard will give a talk and book signing.

Program is free with museum admission or $5 for the program only.

Author, journalist, and Executive Editor of Rodale’s Organic Life magazine, David Howard published Lost Rights in 2010, as his first nonfiction novel. His upcoming book, Chasing Phil: The Adventures of Two Undercover Agents with the World’s Most Charming Con Man, is a thrilling true crime caper that spotlights the FBI’s first white-collar undercover sting. It will be published in October 2017.
