Photographing the Past: the Civil War at Historic Easton Cemetery

September 14, 2019, 2:00-4:00 pm

Visit with members of the 153rd PA Volunteer Infantry, tour graves of local Union soldiers, and delve into the Victorian mourning customs of cemetery picnics, “spirit” photos, hair art, and mourning jewelry, etiquette, and dress.

2:00-2:30 – Join us in the cemetery chapel for a talk on the 153rd, local involvement in the Civil War, and mourning customs that helped families grieve the loss of their loved ones.

2:30 – Visit the veterans’ area of the cemetery where members of the 153rd will talk about individual soldiers and answer questions. Stop and chat with their ladies who will be garbed in period dress and picnicking nearby.

Bring your camera and take photos with our period interpreters or stage a “spirit” photo of your own.
