Elvira Woodruff – Immigrant Tales and Family Story-Making

December 7, 2019, 2:00 pm

Kids: Bring Mom and Dad for this very special visit from award-winning author Elvira Woodruff! In celebration of our newly-opened Destination: Northampton County exhibition, Woodruff will share two of her popular immigration stories – Memory Coat (a picture book) and The Orphan of Ellis Island (a novel for 8-10 yr. olds) – how they were inspired, and how she researched them.

Then listen to a reading of her Small Beauties: The Journey of Darcy Heart O’Hara and join us for a family story-making activity. Free admission.

Copies of Memory Coat and The Orphan of Ellis Island will be available for sale and signing. Families can read and share Small Beauties: The Journey of Darcy Heart O’Hara in the Sigal Museum’s Family Room.

About the Author
Elvira Woodruff is the author of many popular books for children. In the many years she has been writing both picture books and novels for middle grade readers her work has won many awards and honors. She was born in Raritan, New Jersey in 1951 and has lived for the last twenty years in Martins Creek, Pennsylvania. When she isn’t writing she likes to travel to research her stories, work in her garden (morning glories being one of her favorite flowers), and bake cookies and pies in her kitchen.
