In Conversation: Christopher Black

July 28, 2022, 6:00 pm

Join NCHGS in conversation with Christopher Black, a veteran stage actor who spent over a decade as a member of the former Jean Cocteau Classical Repertory in New York. He is also the artistic director of the Bachmann Players, a group of locally-based amateur historians and actors. Mining the area’s rich colonial history, the Players use letters, diaries, and other source materials to recreate the people and events of the 1700’s so that they can be experienced by a modern audience.

His current projects include, among many, portraying Robert Levers, the Easton colonial who read the Declaration of Independence from the courthouse in Centre Square on July 8, 1776, and Dr. Benjamin Franklin, who spent much time in Easton as the Commissioner for Indian Affairs, negotiating treaties with local indigenous peoples.

The Bachmann Players take their name from the 1753 Bachmann Publick House, one of the oldest remaining buildings in Easton, now owned and operated by the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society.
