Halo-Halo Party at the Sigal Museum!

June 23, 2024, 1:00-3:00 pm

Join NCHGS for a halo-halo party to celebrate Philippines Independence Day!

Celebrate our local community by sharing stories, and learning about artifacts brought by Filipino immigrants to Northampton County, especially a 20th century ice shaver used to make the traditional desert halo-halo. Halo-halo is made of shaved iced, topped with coconut milk and sweet toppings such as bananas, jellies, and other fruits. Before the invention of electric ice shavers, tools like these were scraped along large blocks of ice.

Joining us in celebration will be Trixie Oliveira, photographer with Music for a Cause by Art Video Productions; Grazie Pedroso, President of the Filipino American Society of Eastern Pennsylvania, and a fashion show celebrating traditional and contemporary Filipino styles!

This program is part of a series highlighting our exhibit Destination: Northampton County, presenting unheard stories, photographs, and family heirlooms of the last 75 years. Learn more about the exhibit here.
