March 4, 2020, 12:30 pm

Reenactor Marianne Phifer will be bringing Clarina Nichols (1/25/1810-1/11/1885) to life for this month’s program.

The year is 1863 and Clarina Irene Howard Nichols is a journalist, lobbyist and public speaker. She is involved in the temperance movement, abolition, and the Women’s Movement.

Mrs. Nichols is a native of West Townshend, Vermont. She moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1854 where she successfully advocated for women to have the right to vote in school elections. Mrs. Nichols campaigned in Pennsylvania for John C. Fremont in 1856 against PA’s own James Buchanan and she frequently travels to speak on the Women’s Movement.
