Preservation, Conservation, Restoration: Techniques for Working with Historical Textiles

Join our conservation sewing experts for a workshop on historical textiles at the Sigal Museum. There will be demonstrations and hands-on practice of specific techniques. The day’s schedule follows:

9:00-9:30 – Registration and coffee

9:30-10:00 – Introduction

10:00-11:00 – Conservation sewing demonstration and hands-on practice

11:00-11:45 – Packing and cleaning textiles

11:45 – 1:00 Lunch (on your own)

1:00-2:00 – Conservation sewing demonstration and hands-on practice

2:00-2:15 – Break

2:15 – 3:30 – Dying supplies and sewing session

3:30-4:00 – Q&A

Specialty items and fabric packets will be provided for practice. Please bring your own sewing kit.

$25 for NCHGS and Museum & Library Alliance members; $35 non-members
