Rising Nation River Sojourn – Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, Easton Celebration, August 12, 2018

On August 24, 2002 an historic event took place at the Pennsbury Manor, the former estate of William Penn in Morrisville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, that marked a new beginning of brotherhood between the Lenape Indian Tribe and the people that neighbor the Delaware River.
A treaty of renewed brotherhood was signed by the Lenape and a number of organizations, including environmental groups, churches, historical societies, and sincerely committed individuals, who wish to actively support the Lenape culture and to help sustain their people, language, and way of life. The signing was prefaced by an equally historic and monumental three-week canoe journey, which began at the top of the Delaware River in Hancock, N.Y. and culminated in Cape May, NJ. It was agreed that the re-signing of the Treaty, as well as the River Journey, would take place every four years and did so again in the years of 2006, 2010, and 2014.
It is now 2018 and time to make that wonderful journey, both physically and in Spirit, once again! This year’s trip will begin in Hancock, New York on Saturday, August 4th, and will culminate in Cape May, New Jersey with a Lenape finale celebration on Sunday, August 19th.
All are welcome to join us on the river, and all committed individuals and organizations are invited to join our “Rising Nation” and sign the Treaty of Renewed Friendship (formerly the Treaty of Renewed Brotherhood)!
The Lenape and fellow sojourners will come ashore in Easton on Sunday, August 12, 2018. Come greet them at the river with a community celebration, Native American drumming and dancing, period children’s games, and picnicking. Then join us at the Sigal Museum for a signing of the Treaty of Renewed Friendship and continued festivities.
9:00 am – River sojourners will depart from Martin’s Creek
1:00 pm – Bring a picnic and gather at the riverside in Scott Park for Native drumming and dancing, period children’s games, and get ready to greet the sojourners.
2:00 pm  – Sojourners will arrive and come ashore at approximately 2:00 pm (depending on weather and river conditions)
5:00 pm – Join us at the Sigal Museum and sign the Treaty of Renewed Friendship. Stay for further festivities.
