FIELD TRIPS!  We are now booking field trips to the Sigal Museum for spring 2012.   Education programs are available to supplement classroom curriculum, and can be tailored to meet your class goals.  Teachers, we encourage you to call us to discuss your ideal visit.

Through the generous support of Lafayette-Ambassador Bank, Embassy Bank, and Merchants Bank, funds are available that may cover the costs of your class visit!  Call our office at 610.253.1222 to find out if your Northampton County School District can receive free field trips through the EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) program.

Your school can also apply for a Target Grant!  Target generously provides funding to schools in support of field trips.  Teachers are encouraged to apply: target.com/fieldtrips

All groups are welcome, and by reserving in advance, groups of 15 or more will secure a group docent.

Gathering rooms and rental information

The Sigal Museum is a unique and elegant venue for private functions, offering an auditorium seating 100, conference for 50, a children’s program and party room, and picturesque gallery space. Catering services offer a wide range of meal selections. Small and large gatherings can utilize a single area or the entire 33,000 square foot facility.

Call us at 610-253-1222 for group reservations and rental rates.

Lehigh Valley College Connections.

Through this college connections initiative, students, individually and as class units receive free admission, free research, and free classroom meeting space at the Sigal Museum to advance their educational and cultural goals. The museum houses one changing and two permanent exhibition halls, two community/program rooms, a 100-seat auditorium, and a local history and genealogy library and research facility (the Jane S. Moyer Library).  As in all educational programming at the Sigal Museum, our method is to work with you to produce tailored programs and tours complementary to the classroom curriculum. While history, sociology, anthropology, and archeology classes have received optimum benefit thus far from the exhibit stories, our museum experience is lauded by college students, their parents, and faculty as an important cultural and educational destination of universal appeal.

In addition to generalized docent-led tours, specialty presentations are available, including:

THE GEOLOGY AND GEOLOGIC RESOURCES OF NORTHAMPTON COUNTY – This presentation is on the local geologic resources that spurred our nation’s industrial development;

THE FIRST RESIDENTS OF NORTHAMPTON COUNTY – An anthropological study on the Lenape culture prior to the Historic Period.

THE LENAPE SACRED SITES – A presentation on the identification and conservation of lithic monuments at Lenape Sacred Sites.

NATIVE AMERICAN GARDENING AND HORTICULTURE – A presentation on the flora to food development left to us by Native Americans via genetic engineering and selection;

MUSEUM TOURS IN FRENCH – for students who have achieved Level II or higher study, led by a native speaker;

THE FOLKART OF SAMUEL MOON – a presentation on the Samuel Moon portrait collection;

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY & THE CIVIL WAR: On the Battlefront and on the Homefront – a temporary exhibit through March 15, 2012 that explores life during this tumultuous period of American history.

We invite current Lehigh Valley College (Lehigh, Moravian, Lafayette, Cedar Crest, DeSales, Muhlenberg, NCC, LCCC) students to enjoy a visit to the museum, where they will receive FREE ADMISSION by providing their current College IDs at the admission desk.  Regular museum hours are: Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30am – 3pm, Sunday noon – 4pm.

We invite professors to schedule a group visit during museum hours or as a special evening program.

Please take advantage of the generous support AIR PRODUCTS has provided.  Funding is limited, is expected to be fully expended this spring, and will be allocated to you on a first come-first serve basis.

Questions or Reservations, please call Barbara Kowitz, Executive Director at 610-253-1222 or email barbara@northamptonctymuseum.org.
