2012 Passport to History Celebrates FREE Northampton County History Day March 11

The year-round 2012 Passport to History offers 260 years of Northampton County history in 26+ stops.  The limited edition Passports are now available, free of charge, by the nineteen participating historical organizations and sites of Northampton County, PA.  Take your passport  with you, as you visit each site.  When you’ve received all the stamps your passport can hold, we’ll help you celebrate your successful travel through Northampton County history during an award event in 2013!   Join us at the Sigal Museum on Sunday, March 11 from 2pm to 4pm to learn all about the sites you’ll visit throughout the year.   At 2:30 relive life in Northampton County through time with a talk by author and historian Frank Whelan.  For more information on the Passport program, click here

Introducing the 2012 “We the People: Shapers of History” Series

The Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society is pleased to launch its 2012 We the People: Shapers of History series at the Sigal Museum.  History is peopled by individuals who made amazing contributions to our culture, and events that still influence our belief systems of today. This series explores the lives and accomplishments of men and women who shaped life in their times and ours, and examines the hugely transforming and long-term events that have changed our world, shaped our society’s growth, development, and way of life.

Thursday, February 23, 7pm “African Americans in Phillipsburg” presented by Wayne Sherrer.

Thursday, March 8, 10am  “Pennsylvania Women in History” with the AAUW Easton Branch.

Sunday, March 10, 1pm.  “Juliette Gordon Low” impersonated by Melissa Rabinsky in honor of Girl Scout Week.

Thursday, April 19.  “Day of Remembrance” with Morris Metz recognizes the survivors of the Holocaust.  At the Temple Covenant of Peace., 15th & Northampton Sts., Easton

Saturday, April 28, 1pm “Emancipation in Pennsylvania” with Brian Alnutt, East Stroudsburg University

February Events.

2/23 7pm “African Americans in Phillipsburg” presented by Wayne Sherrer. While Phillipsburg has a diverse ethnic heritage, some of its early residents have been completely invisible to historians. Come to hear about the African-Americans who lived there in the 1800s and about their near-disappearance from the scene by 1900. This program is free and open to the public, with light refreshments served to encourage participant discussion and thought.

March Events

3/8 10am AAUW Women in History Program – In celebration of International Women’s Day, members of the Easton AAUW will present a program of personal portrayals of women, telling the story of how each woman made an impact locally, and in some cases, internationally. Free with museum admission or $5 suggested donation for program only.

 

 

 

 

 

 

3/10 & 11  FINAL WEEKEND: Civil War: On the Battlefield & On the Homefront

Don’t miss the final days of the Civil War exhibit at the Sigal Museum.

Saturday, March 10 9:30am to 3:00pm Members of the 153rd PA Volunteer Regiment will be at the Sigal Museum, commemorating Northampton County’s participation in the Civil War.

1pm “Juliette Gordon Low” in honor of Girl Scout Week, Juliette Gordon Low will be enacted by Melissa Rabinsky. Girl Scouts are admitted free.

2:30pm  “Easton and the Civil War” presented by Dick Jacoby.

Sunday, 3/11   Noon – 4:00pm
